Gratitude: Remember When You Wanted What You Have

So much of happiness lies in gratitude!

The core purpose of the KonMari Method is to create greater joy aka happiness in our lives. When we don’t give a thought to appreciating what we have or what we gain, when we fail to notice and appreciate that we have met a need or fulfilled a dream, we are robbing ourselves of joy. We are robbing ourselves of connection to our true selves and this world. We are putting ourselves on a consumption treadmill, chasing hit after hit in the form of new purchases, experiences, “solutions”, etc. We pin our hopes of things getting better/easier/brighter/calmer/more enjoyable/more impressive on possessions, on constant change. It’s no wonder we feel stress and burnout with clutter, when we are churning through new instead of resting with where we are and what we have.

There’s nothing wrong with new, with change, with transition. What we seek to change with KonMari is a lack of mindfulness.

I invite you to take a moment today to notice what you have. To remember how you used to want or need it. To recall the effort you put into obtaining it. To see again the hope you had for what it would do for you. And to relive the fleeting joy you had once it became yours. Try to step into that joy once more and see what you have with a now more grateful heart.
